Charters School   in Sunningdale has won the Education Award at the East Region Aegon British Tennis Awards. Berkshire LTA Chairman Lesley Cundy and LTA President Cathie Sabin presented Simon Grassi, Head of Charters Tennis, with the award on Monday 23rd May at Holy Trinity School in Sunnindale.

Lesley Cundy said, “There were some excellent nominations for this award across the East Region; including Universities and Colleges. As a school, Charters has been an outstanding advocate of tennis in Berkshire and offers a very comprehensive programme to all its students. Simon Grassi, with the support of the school and his colleagues, has developed a very successful structure that enables tennis to feature within the curriculum, whilst recognising the need to provide opportunities for its students to acquire leadership skills and interact with the local community.”

Mr Grassi, whi has worked at Charters for 12 years said, “Year on year the programme has increased participation at the school and in the local area. I am very proud of what we have achieved and I look forward to developing the programme further at Charters School and the local courts in Broomhall Receration Ground, Sunningdale.”

As a regional winner Charters is now in contention, as part of a national shortlist, to be named the winner of the Education Award at the Aegon British Tennis Awards.
