On Friday 6th May, employees from Eli Lilly presented a workshop about the role of maths in medical research to  Charters School’s most able maths students in Year 10.

Claire Brittain, who attended Charters School in the nineties and is now a Medical Statistician at Eli Lilly, was one of the presenters of the workshop and said, “The students were really engaged. I didn’t know what I wanted to do when I was at school and it is really enjoyable to visit schools to explain how vital maths is in our industry.”

Lauren Paul, who attended the workshop said, “It was really interesting to see how maths plays a part in finding cures for diseases such as Alzheimer’s. It’s certainly a future career I would like to think about.”

Kate Hill, Director of STEM at Charters said, “This workshop was another excellent opportunity for our students to learn about STEM careers in mathematics. This is the second group of students to attend the workshop and they were, like the group before them, engaged and interested, demonstrating a thirst for knowledge and tackling some complex A level mathematics with maturity.”
