 Charters School  in Sunningdale has been selected, as one of only six schools in the Royal Borough, to put together a team of six students to train as Emotional Wellbeing Champions.

The Psychological Wellbeing Team in RBWM runs the Emotional Wellbeing Champions programme in association with ‘Time to Change’, a national campaign to end mental health discrimination and stigma. The aim of the programme is to raise awareness and knowledge http://www.ourhealthissues.com/product/xanax/ of positive mental health, and to create an open, supportive culture around mental health in schools.

The students; Emma Sibley (Y8), Charlie Holden (Y9), Ellie Sassi-Roberts (Y9), Max White (Y9), Jack Wetherall (Y9) and Mahika Manco (Y10), together with Sera Orme, the School Counsellor, were invited to take part in a one-day workshop, which provided them with the opportunity to learn about the importance of emotional wellbeing and resilience.

 

Following the workshop, the Emotional Wellbeing Champions will present the campaigns they designed to their peers, with the idea that they tackle stigma and discrimination by raising awareness of emotional difficulties and how to look after themselves and others.

Several years ago, Charters School recognised the importance of timely access to essential support services for students as part of the schools’ pastoral care programme.  Everyone at Charters understands that, from time to time, young people need additional help, over and above what might reasonably be expected and using a gift from ex-Charters student, Carl Maine, were able to transform the vacant Carertaker’s bungalow on the periphery of the site into a facility which could offer a multitude of services to our students and their families.  So often, the social, medical, emotional or behavioural needs of students hamper, and in some cases, prevent them realising their potential.  The purpose of the Maine Centre is to provide a bespoke support programme to individuals which will allow them to access the curriculum and take full advantage of the excellent learning opportunities available to them.
