On Wednesday 2nd December, Charters School hosted an important community event, designed to find out what local people wanted from their school and the site in the future.

Bringing together key stakeholders and residents from the Ascot, Sunningdale and Sunninghill area, the focus of the evening was on helping to formulate a coherent vision for the future development of facilities for local residents on the school site. Talks centred on: the expansion of the school site; the creation of a multi-sports facility; development of cycleways and a provision of a nursery.

Richard Pilgrim, Co-Headteacher, said: 'We were very honoured to welcome prominent local figures including borough and local councillors, local businesses, charities and community groups, as well as governors and staff from the school, local primary schools and the local authority, to raise and debate their exciting ideas for our community.’

'There was a real buzz in the room as people shared their hopes and ideas about four important areas of opportunity; the expansion of the school site to incorporate additional students and improved mathematics and science accommodation; the development of a Multi-Sports Facility that would significantly enhance leisure facilities for the local community and enable opportunities for use during the working day; the development of cycleways linking the school with Sunninghill and Sunningdale that would provide an opportunity for residents, including local school children, to move around in a greener, healthier and safer way; and the provision of a crèche on the school site to support working parents in the area.’

'It was very exciting to witness the energy, enthusiasm and passion generated by these discussions.'

Charters School will collate all of the ideas and comments and produce a report which will be circulated to the community via the representatives who attended the event, and through the Co-Headteachers’ weekly email.

Martyn Parker, Co-Headteacher concluded: 'This is only the start of what we all hope is a great opportunity to develop and implement a vision to enhance the facilities available to residents in our local community. Discussions will continue and funding opportunities sought.'
