Girls at St George’s School, Ascot are celebrating after achieving excellent A Level results, with many individual students gaining outstanding grades as well as entrance to the most competitive courses at Russell Group universities.
St George’s has received its best results in recent years, with a significant increase in the number of A* grades awarded (up to 17% compared with 10% in 2014). Most significantly, 72% of all results were graded A*-B and girls and staff are justly proud of these fabulous achievements.
Top marks in the school go to Emily Hughes, who was awarded A*, A*, A* along with an A*grade in her Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). Emily is thrilled to be accepting a place to read Geography at Durham University. Congratulation also go to Head Girl, Mimo Sandford, who achieved A*, A, A and has been accepted into Clare College, Cambridge University to study Veterinary Medicine.
Other girls achieving outstanding grades include Maria Reinaas who achieved A*, A*, A*, A and plans to read Chemical Engineering and Deputy Head Girl, Alannah Horswell, who achieved A*, A*, A and plans to read Law. Further notable performers are Alice Wiggin who has won an unconditional offer to prestigious Central St Martins, Juliette Iviglia who goes on to read Modern Languages at UCL and Georgina Allen who will read Philosophy at Durham.
Headmistress, Liz Hewer commented: “I am extremely pleased with this year’s record-breaking results. They are a reflection of the hard work put in by the girls and the individual teaching delivered by the very dedicated staff here at St George’s. Particularly pleasing is the significant increase in the number of A* grades given the uncertainty surrounding the new reformed A Levels. We are very proud of these girls who leave St George’s to study in a wide variety of fields next year – from Veterinary Medicine at Cambridge, Law at Durham and Chemical Engineering, to Art at Central Saint Martins and Conservatoire courses for Singing at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester. There are also girls embarking on vocational courses and entering the world of work. Our reputation is built on consistency of excellence in all areas and I wish these confident, capable young women all the very best for the future”.
