Seven times world snooker champion Stephen Hendry was the surprise guest who opened the St Francis Catholic Primary School fair on Sunday (June 28). Stephen then played snooker against some of the parents and pupils of the school to give them a truly memorable day.

He was joined at the fair by Councillor Eileen 'Dee' Quick, who has just been confirmed as the new mayor of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.

They were both welcomed to the school by Headteacher Mrs Jane Gow who said the school's pupils, parents and friends were hugely grateful to Stephen and the Mayoress for giving up their time to support the school. “The grey weather on Sunday couldn’t dampen the  enthusiastic reception for our guests and we all had a terrific day.”

As well as the chance to show off their snooker skills the guests at the fair also had the excitement of a bouncy castle, go-karts, a fire engine, disco and face-painting.

Scots born Stephen Hendry became the youngest professional snooker player in 1985 aged 16 and in 1990 he was the youngest-ever World Champion at the age of 21. He went on to win many major titles and was snooker’s world number one for eight consecutive years between 1990 and 1998 and again in 2006/2007. In May 2012 he retired from the sport to focus on his commercial interests but he remains a commentator for BBC snooker.
