Actor Tim Brooke-Taylor and the Deputy Mayor of Windsor and Maidenhead Councillor Asghar Majeed officially opened the new
Thames Hospicecare’s furniture store which stocks a huge range of furniture items, including beds, sofas, dining room tables, wardrobes and chairs. Later on Windsor MP, Adam Afriyie joined shoppers, staff and volunteers to cut the celebratory cake.

"The facilities at the Dedworth Homestore allow us to offer a fantastic range of good quality furniture and everything for the home. What's great about the store is its actual size - it's huge and very welcoming for shoppers. The showroom is bigger than many high street furniture stores, and in fact similar to the space in a department store," said Ros White, Retail Director, Thames Hospicecare.

The Hospice currently has 15 shops across Berkshire and parts of Middlesex and Surrey, but no dedicated store for good quality household furniture. The store is a massive 3,500 sq. ft, so the range of furniture and home ware on sale is huge.

"We have also departmentalised all the goods so even though it's a big showroom when you walk in, you can instantly find what you're looking for or you can just walk through the store browsing through each living area which is accessorised with coordinating homes wares," explained Ros.

Ros believes that support from Tim, the Deputy Mayor and Windsor's MP has given the store a great start. thames hospicecare dedworth furniture shop

"We need people knowing that we're here, and supporting the THc Homestore not only by buying goods but also donating furniture and household items. When we sell an item of furniture we need to be able to quickly re-stock our store since every penny we make at the THc Homestore will go directly to running the Hospice. Many people are unaware that the Hospice relies almost entirely on local fundraising and the income generated from its shops to continue to run its patient services. The THc Homestore is meeting a local community need for good quality furniture but also a very serious need at the Hospice for continuing funding," explained Ros.

The THc Homestore will provide free collection of furniture donated.

Also opening on Friday on the same site as the THc Homestore was the THc Donation Centre dedicated to accepting donations of furniture and any other goods that customers wish to drop off which will also be sold in the Hospice's other shops.

"We are extremely grateful to Tim Brooke-Taylor, Deputy Mayor Cllr Majeed and Adam Afriyie MP for supporting our launch. But I would also like to thank all the retail staff and volunteers who have worked so hard over the last few weeks in preparing the store and donation centre ready for their grand opening," said Ros.

The THc Homestore and Donation Centre are located on the Fairacres Industrial Estate, Dedworth Road, Windsor, SL4 4LE (between Tesco and the garden centre). Both are open Mon-Sat 9.30am to 5.00pm. To arrange a free collection of unwanted saleable furniture please call 01753 866303.
